Mini photoshoot @ The Nook

I went to school for decorating and styling but LET ME TELL YOU it's a bit overwhelming when you're in the room with your assistant and a bunch of furniture/props trying to work out what to even do first - and you've actually never put your training into proper practice before. Haha! Mandy and I moved everything we'd gathered to photograph into The Nook (next door to Commonfolk, where my studio is) and we stood in the centre of the room looking at all the things we had to work with while some guy unpacked his surfboards •

I planned heaps of shots for us to try - but even then it's really something you have to do on the spot, because sometimes it just doesn't go to plan?? Super lucky i had Mandy (Tauro Designs) and Tommy (to photograph) who helped loads - i think having friends to work with help takes the pressure off a bit. As in, they understand if you need to lie down and count to ten because nothing's working.

It's all a learning process and we'll just keep getting better (hopefully!) but i think we pulled it off! Some i like more than others, (my favourite is the fox on the desk~) but i think all of them represent the work well and that's all that matters!

Here's a couple of shots:

Safe Keeping

A few months ago my studio mates Sarah, Kate & I had a group exhibition at The Nook in Mornington. It was probably the most overwhelming show i've ever been in to be honest, but also the one i was most proud of. Actually, all of us were. Leading up to it, March was a complete blur, and it was full on - because in between actually finishing work to show we had massive markets and so also had heaps of stock to prepare - and i'd just returned from Japan! How my brain functioned and didn't just fry itself is truly remarkable. We curated this show ourselves, and organised the sponsors, media/advertising and props too. Crazy times. All of us look back now and seriously wonder how we pulled it all off! Anyway, here below are some photos of it by Sarah and our photographer friend, Tom Terlaak.

About our show:

“Safe Keeping is an exhibition by Sarah Dingwall, Kate Macindoe and Emma Morgan that explores the concept of preservation, as well as each artists’ own desire to protect an object or moment. Inspired by the natural world, each artist reflects on their connections to places, memories, ideas and objects through their respective mediums.

The artists enjoy working alongside each other in their shared studio space at Commonfolkin Mornington. Together, they have valued the creative processes behind hand-making each of the artworks in this show.

The Beast Beside Us

Wow, we opened last night and had a massive turn out!

Show is beautifully put together by lovely Jeanne & Jenny, and has a fabulous variety of artists involved - including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and prints of animal related imagery!

I had 3 works in this show, 'Majesty', 'Grey' and 'Kodiak', and we are in Gallery 2. The show is on now until the 27th. Red Gallery (157 St Georges Rd, Fitzroy Nth: open Wed - Sat, 11-5pm. : )

All my work framed in a box frame (with oak), and i honestly think spending the extra $$ was worth it. Framed by Forman Picture Framing who have been so supportive to me!

People think art show openings are super chill but i always feel stressed watching people wander through looking/pointing at everything and then checking the price! (Free wine doesn't help)

(Semi dodgy as i just ripped it off my instagram)

(sorry)

(You can follow me there for more fun times on ig but @emmma.morgan)

(Yay!)

Elephants

It doesn't feel like winter anymore, which is lovely. And i haven't posted anything new here for a while, so have a happy elephant couple. I tried out acrylic paint to block in the black instead of running my pens dry and i think it looks great too! Roughly 40x45cm.

Printing fun times part 1

I bought some matte paper this afternoon after talking myself into trying to actually make and sell art prints (woah!). After fiddling around trying to photograph my larger drawings and being apprehensive about the printed final, i dug out some smaller drawings to scan and print for comparison. I was much happier with those, so it looks like my larger drawings will have to go to a scanner person before i do anything else. (What a kick in the nuts). Below are some copies i did this afternoon:

(NOT TO SHABBY AYE. Stay tuned...)

Keep it down!

Was pretty hard at work on this one for the last few days! It took me a while - i don't seem to like to make things easy for myself. (I actually have a sore on my finger from gripping the pen for so long haha!). I'm pretty happy with it though! It actually started off as me trying to redraw the old 'Fox and Hound' drawing in pen, but then i just kept adding to it (If you know the drawing im talking of, you'll perhaps notice the familiar composition...). Cool. (Just in the standard fine liner, about 57x50cm). Please enjoy~

Whisperings

I tried this out with ink to fill out the suits - i think i'll keep playing with it. I wasn't %100 happy with it, but anyway. My favourite is the rooster.

Intro

Hello friend.
I'm hopeless at blogging. However, i feel after bombarding my facebook and instagram "friends" constantly with these new drawings that i seem to churn out like a jet ink printer, it may be a good idea to find another location to post these beasts. So here it is.

...Well,  I hope this has been an enjoyable intro... (Though not as enjoyable as the one by the xx). (I wish).
